Officer

Colonel Baynes and Sir George Prevost were responsible for appointing the officers of the Glengarry Light infantry Fencibles.

The black collar of this dark green coat is laced with black braid, and has a silver button on each side. The rows of silver buttons on the coat front are laced with black braid across the chest. The black leather cross belt worn by officers incorporated a silver lion’s head, chain and whistle. The sash was worn over the right shoulder symbolizing the highland origins of the regiment. Officers of Light Infantry regiments often incorporated styles of Light Cavalry, so it was common to see them wearing leather trimmed pants and fur trimmed pelisses.
