Re: Appropriate canteen
Bill: Is this yours? If so, where did you find it!? I see the broad arrow burned/etched into it but I can't make out the white lettering,....it doesn't look period. What does it say? I love the fact that the milk paint has a darker hue to it than does modern milk paint blue,...but do you think it's ...

Re: COLOURS of the Glengarry Light Infantry
Keith: The common theme for our regiment without colours would have been to display "Niagara", for our victory at Lundy's Lane, on our Officer's swords but also to have ensigns, since we apparently did not have colours. There is no evidence for this, but because there ended up being two di...

Canadians? What Canadians?
Leave it to both the British and the Americans to forget to address the fact that a primarily Canadian force attacked, and defeated, an American stronghold in February of 1813. Have a look at the following quotation taken from Lt. Col. E. Cruikshank's collection edited by/for the Lundy's Lane Histor...

Re: Good place to by flints.
Keith: I just looked and it seems that VR1 is outta business. If you can't buy your flints right from Brandon in Britain then there are three north american retailers. They are as follows: http://www.ima-usa.com/product_info.php/products_id/590 https://www.atlantacutlery.com/p-700-british-musket-fli...

Re: Forage cap
Keith: Either one will do, but we're attempting to all look the same so the pork-pie style will do. Green ball for lights and black band to represent unit's facing colour. Cap badge can be put onto the left side of the band if you like. It's just for regimental display. Cock's to the right when wear...

Re: Good place to by flints.
Keith:
Most people use 3/4 inch for the .75 calibres. Best place to buy would be from Britain,....but if it's not possible then VR1 outta Washington State in usa used to be the best.
Cheers,
Pud

Re: Pimp My Kit
300 bucks ?!! Ouch! Antique places for sure,.........I got my broad axe head (120 years old) at an old place in London about 15 years ago for $35 and then bought a $10 piece of pre-shaped hickory........that did the trick. You gotta get out into the country and away from the big city and its prices ...

Re: Pimp My Kit
Absolutely Bill ! A pioneer would come into play for that sort of thing. Typically, a pioneer would be attached to a company (3 platoons),... but we could make it work. The best examples I've ssen in the reenactor's world are the guys who have portrayed the pioneer for the IMUC, Scots and 8th. Ultim...

LOL !! Stop! You guys are killing me. This past January (09) I handed out the "Account Book" to all those that attended the practice and in it is a list of the "Necessaries" (and their specs) that each of us should have in our possession at all times and, therefore, what should g...

Re: Teens ordered to pay for cemetery vandalism
Will, Perth was actually established immediately following the War of 1812, circa 1816, specifically as a military town, or x-military town,...depending upon how you look at it. A great majority of it's original settlers were Scottish and Irish - Canadians who had fought during the War of 1812 and w...

COLOURS of the Glengarry Light Infantry
A recent question that was sent to me was about the Regimental Colours of the Glengarry Light Infantry Fencibles,...or the lack of them. It has prompted me to post the following details: A frequent quotation is that of the 'burning of the GLI Colours' that apparently took place in 1813 when Fort Geo...
