Re: Forlorn Hope
Generally the term "The Forlorn Hope" is the title given to the initial group going through the breach or over the walls (via ladders) of an enemy fort. One can imagin that going into a well defended fort would be hard enough. Going into a fort via hole created by artilery or explosives we...

Re: COLOURS of the Glengarry Light Infantry
Pud:
I was wondering if you could describe the ensin in a little more detail. I was thinking of having a flag made here by one of the local craftsmen. (For my own use as addornment for my "man's room" in the new house.)
Also did the regiment have a motto?

Re: COLOURS of the Glengarry Light Infantry
Pud: Since the unit styles it self off of a rifle regiment in some ways, would it not be possible that the GLI's colours were (or ment to be ) on the regimental drum as per rifle regiments? Also if they were to be a flag type what would they have looked like? Also what would the traveling ensigns ha...

Appropriate canteen
Guys: I'm wondering what the appropreate canteen for the time period would be? From what I have read on line it would seem that the round blue wooden one is correct, however I have also found that the british used a half moon or kidney shaped metal one during the FIW time frame. If this is so would ...

Forage cap
A quick one on this subject. With regards to the forage cap, which one is more appropreate for us? The wedge type, the night cap or the pork pie? Also would there be any distinctive unit markings on the one we would wear?

Re: Pimp My Kit
Thinking of some of the stuff I carry on my modern kit while I'm working. I think the rope as well as some light weight pots/kettles and definatly pioneering tools (axe, shovel etc).
